Y3 project.
Hopefully, you have now had chance to think about your project, and you have started to have a good look around your local area.
In case you lose your letter, here is a reminder of what you need to do:
Your project should include the following information:
• Where is my local area?
This should include annotated maps which can be drawn or copied / printed. It can also include photos and descriptions. These should show, for example, where our school is in relation to your house, your route to school, where your local area is in relation to the rest of the country.
• What is in my local area?
Find out what is around your local area. Are there shops, cafes, library, park, canal, station, play areas? You can select some of these and visit them. Take photos, ask for leaflets, menus, timetables. Describe the places. What can you do in these places? Who might go there and why? Include maps to show where these places are in relation to each other. Is there a good range of facilities for children and adults in your area?
Your project should be divided up into sections, with a cover, contents page and bibliography (list of sources of information). It should be presented in a folder or ring binder. Work can be done on computer or hand written but it should be your own work and not just a series of print outs from the internet!! A variety of work is expected, so make sure you get out and do some investigating, but always ask an adult to go with you. Ask permission if you want to take photos inside shops and other buildings, and if you want to interview people at work always ask for a good time to do this. Try to get information on a variety of places rather than focusing on one. If you can, include some history of the area.
You can have lots of help with your project at home, but it should be your work.
Time will be given in school if you need to bring things in to work on, just ask.
Also ask for help if you get stuck – have fun!
